We are pleased to have found a home for this site in Fortune City.
Many of the Pocono Moon Dreams and Front Room Media Sites are about the artistic depiction of women.
The Blonde Venus Site is no exception and aims to provide free quality pictures of women as depected in comics. It is not meant to be an exhaustive collection but there will be more pictures available as the site develops. Time and money are of course the resource restraints so any help in supporting our sponsors is welcomed.
This site is managed by Nancy Kovaks who lives in the southwest of England and has a specialist interest in comics.

The fascination of "Women In Comics" is one of cultural significance and has obvious links with Pin-Up and Pop Art but above all it is an aesthetically pleasant experience enjoyed equally by both sexes. I still remember the laughter when I tried to convince my peers that Comics were Art. The laughter has subsided over the years and appreciation of Comic Art is no longer just the realm of the pre-pubescent teens.
The study of Women in Comics is complex was divided into helpful categories by Art historian and collector Art Amsie. These are as follows:
Women as Non-Principal Characters
Women as Principal Characters - General
Women as Principal Characters - Sexy
Women as Costumed Heroines
Examples of each can be found in the Gallery above. Other categories could include; women as decoration, women as companions, women as victims, women as villains, women as a sales device, women as role models, the idealised woman, the idolised woman, women as vehicles for male fantasy.
Some of the above has been meat for the women's liberation movement, but I think it also works in a converse way. I believe that the idolisation of women by their male counter parts has prompted men to be more sensitive to female needs. Hence the "New Man" is inwardly wanting to be the "New Woman". This is born out in male fantasies that have found a welcome place on the internet. The Trans-Feminisation of the Male is all mixed up with something "kind of soft and tender and clean".
Many fine artists have been involved in comic book art and are probably subject for seperate discussion, but I feel I must mention some of the master craftsmen involved in the early stages of the genre. Will Eisner, Matt Baker, Tarpe Mills, Bill Ward, Jack Kamen, Wallace Wood, Jack Kirby, Al Feldstein, Fran Hopper, Bob Powell, Lily Renee, Joe Kubert, Frank Frazetta, and more deserve mention.
